Red, White &…GREEN!

Hello All!  Well this last week has been a doozy!  Filling you all in on our 4th of July celebration went to the wayside and I’m so sorry as it was a fab party!  As you all know this is the one celebration come hell or high water we make happen!  It’s the celebration of so many things!  For many it’s the obvious appreciation for those fallen soldiers, those past soldiers and those current soldiers who are and have fought for our freedom.  As Joe, his grandfather and both my grandfather’s served we honor the day for them and those friends we know who have and are serving.  It is also the day we celebrate Joe’s grandfather’s birthday!  Lastly, it’s a time that we get to get together with friends and family to celebrate life and how lucky we are to have those we do in it!  So this year we decided to run with Joe’s heritage and do a Mexican Fiesta theme!

Most important was entertainment and food…at least for me!  So good Mexican food was the start and typically we try to hire a chef to come cook at the event.  This was tough which I hadn’t expected.  So I spoke with a few friends and they highly recommended a grocery store/restaurant a few towns over.  So we had steak and chicken burritos, Spanish rice, black beans, enchiladas, and tamales!  For dessert we had strawberry filled tamales, churros, cupcakes, fresh fruit!  For drinks we had a variety of Mexican beer and of course a margarita machine!  For the kids we had fun flavored drinks and blue raspberry slushies -a must for all parties that contain kids!  My kids are rarely affected by sugar so it was a double thumbs up for us…I’m sure other parents were not thinking the same.  But it’s a party so we all have to have fun!  For the kids we had horseback rides and a small petting zoo which included an alpaca, two sheep, and two goats.  We also had bounce house with a slide and for the adults we had a band.  I would have loved to hire a mariachi band but the cost just wasn’t in the budget this year.  Honestly, the band we had was amazing and was a perfect fit.  They played music of Santana, La Bamba, as well as a Mexican Polka that was perfect for the Piñata breaking!  They also had my nephew who is taking guitar do a couple songs with them.  Overall, the food and the entertainment all worked perfect!  Sometimes plans do go as you initially envision but in the end the results are better than you could have imagined!

Next up we headed to Hayward while Joe went to a desolate island with his brothers for a week in Canada!  With us arriving in Hayward on the actual 4th we got to enjoy a fireworks show that was honestly one of the best I’ve seen in years!  I didn’t capture a ton with the camera but what I did are here for you to enjoy!  It was a great night!

I look forward to sharing the rest of our Hayward trip with you later this week!  As I was there I got to work on some refinishing and refreshing projects for my in-laws and I can’t wait to share those and the other fun stuff we got in to while up there!  Until then Cheers🍻

It’s a Deere Party!

We recently celebrated K turning the treacherous three! With a little boy in love with anything that does work but at the top of his list is always DOZERS! We had to branch out a little this birthday as we had a construction party last year which was a blast. So in keeping with trucks per say I suggested we have a John Deere Party! He was all about it…All I need is the go ahead and its off to the races or in this case off to the local tractor supply store!
Invites were my first task and I am a huge fan of Etsy for all my party printing needs! Well and gifts, and well pretty much its a great site for just about anything! Anyway, I love to include a picture of the year prior in my invites so I went with the following!

Kole's 3rd Birthday

Now it’s on to decorations, clothes, favors, food, entertainment! Last year I made a hard hat piñata and the kids loved it! Being March and still chilly I asked K if he wanted to have another. I couldn’t just do a piñata but again due to theme and weather its a bit hard to do something fun as last year it was colder for his birthday so we had a digger brought over for the kids to get rides and dig up all the snow around and do pictures. This year my same great friend who is a collector of CAT and John Deere anything suggested I used some of his kids riding Deere’s! I loved it as K could participate and the kids were all going to be in the range of eleven and under! So we borrowed three riders! For food I did fried chicken (free range chicken), deviled eggs (fresh laid eggs), chex mix (chicken feed), chips (farm fresh potatoes), vegetable tray (farm fresh veggies), I attempted to make a John Deere cake (2nd fondant cake) and I surrounded the cake with mini chocolate cupcakes as mud! For our favors I reached out to the internet; what did we do before?! I ordered plastic John Deere cups, John Deere popcorn, John Deere gum, John Deere suckers, I put all of the goodies in a John Deere bag! I loved how these came together! John Deere has seriously so much cute stuff out there for parties! Since we didn’t splurge on entertainment I thought everyone in John Deere gear was a must! The site I found them on had a huge clearance event going on-SCORE!!  For decorations I’m kind of believe less is more I mean why spend a fortune on decorations?  Kids come to the party for the fun and parents and family come for the food and company; right?!  So I always keep it pretty simple.  My friend again who is a collector borrowed me three large signs to place around the house, he also borrowed me a collectors little trailer which I used for the favors.  I purchased John Deere balloons, plates, napkins.  I simple made my place cards by saving images off the net and typing up my own.  I love burlap and we have a ton of it around the house in all forms sacks, large pieces from fabric store, on a reel…you name I probable have it!  This is the perfect table covering for this theme I thought!  So again nothing crazy heck barely anything now that I am saying it! LOL!  Yes, I do count my tableware as decorations as it had John Deere all over it!  You should too!

It’s time to say “Thank you!”  For this I too went to the internet and found a great site with free printable!  They had a blank John Deere invite but being blank it worked perfect for my thank you cards!

Since we were in Disney for S’s fourth birthday we wanted to something of a WOW factor for K!  So with help from friends and family we were able to get a CAT dozer for him!  A friend drove two hours to pick it up then my dad picked it up from them and charged it overnight so it was all set for the big day!  I truly appreciate those that help me on these days or to make these days happen as they are so important!  I can honestly say this party was the one I didn’t find myself feeling like crazy town the day of.  I think I could have done a bit more but you know what my three-year old had a great day with friends and family and that is all that mattered!

Lisenby Week In Review

Oh my what a week it was…and as the saying goes all good things must come to an end and boo for that!  As this morning was the first day in six days that getting up with the kiddos occurred. My mother in law arrived last Sunday evening and immediately Monday morning jumped in getting up with S at 630a.m. Which I wasn’t expecting so we were all up to have some breakfast. K woke and by 10:30 a.m. the house was dead silent as Papa and Grandma took the kids to go visit/meet our nephews wife and their new baby as well as run a few other errands. I had no idea what to do with myself. Being they were in town to help me recover from a recent surgery I cozied in a slept for a few hours.  Waking up to a still quiet house I watched a little tv…my own show of which I knew no other channel than Disney Junior and our local public access channel; Lol! I made dinner and that was the last day this occurred during their visit as my mother in law says “I can’t cook, but am happy to pay!” So carry out it was for majority of the week!

Tuesday was beautiful and I hadn’t really been outside so we went for a walk stopping at the park!  Grandma zipped between giving under dogs on the swings to the slides to uneven bars. Having not seen these two at a park recently she didn’t know what monkeys they were!  S and K most appreciated Grandmas slide participation!

My girlfriend Amelia was in town on business so my MIL and FIL took care of the kids allowing me to join her for a little dinner and wine.  This was wonderful as we rarely get to see each other and as a mom it’s important to get out every now and then for a few good laughs with those other than the ones you are with day in and day out.

Wednesday Grandma and S time I thought was appropriate so K and I played trucks while they went for pedicure.  Oh yeah and…drum roll! Tuesday night K went poop on the potty with Grandma! I know and she was worried the week would be a bore! So they also went to get him big boy underwear!  Wednesday morning he went twice with me! So exciting!  I am totally not pushing the issue this time around so we are still in diapers and when he asks for the potty we run to it!

Thursday and Friday it was off to the races to find treasures at the many garage sales in ours and surrounding towns as I mentioned last week S is a garage sale’ing diva so we had a blast!   In the downtime Thursday and Friday we used our greatest find which was this crazy sprays everywhere sprinkler! Grandma had a blast cooling off with the kiddos.  Papa had the opportunity to teach or try to teach K some card games!  He tried very hard to stack like Papa but it turned in to more of a fifty-two pick up of sorts!  Fun none the less!

You may wonder where Joe was during this week…we just about have our waterfall/Koi pond complete.  He was working feverishly on this as we have to get sod in this week.  Due to the last load of stones not ready for pick up Friday it will be completed early this week!  But here are a few pictures including the 2500lb stone he set last Tuesday!  I can’t wait to enjoy this feature of our backyard!

Saturday night Joe’s brother and wife arrived, his brother departed today but my sister-in-law is visiting until the 4th!  So we are now starting the next bit of fun and craziness!  But my brother-in-law wasn’t let depart this morning without a good hour full of a kitchen dance party with S and K!  I’m pretty sure he couldn’t wait to catch that plane out! Lol!  My sister-in-law was doing Mermaid creations one sip after her morning Mountain Dew! Oh how I love family and the madness these two beautiful children bring to our lives!

Happy Monday to all and Thank You doesn’t even touch on how much we appreciate our parents help these past two weeks!  The memories created will surely last a lifetime!
