Where do the Days go!?

HELLO Friends!  Things are crazy busy and I do think a big part of this is due to the fact that our summer just started July 1st!  So for us we are sucking up every day of hot weather we can.  S starts 4K in just a few short weeks and K starts 3K.  I truly can not believe I am going to have a child in “real” school!  I am also so very excited for her to start her journey in life of learning all the world of school has to offer…First best friends, first homework assignment, first field trip!  K will be heading to the Montessori school S attended last year.  With him being my child that appreciates perfection I think he will do great.  Tonight was his first time doing a new chore of putting his laundry away.  He did amazing and was so proud of himself.

Besides what’s ahead let’s chat about what we have been up to!  The 4th of July party was a huge success!  Unfortunately I was so wrapped up in the day I failed to take pictures of the set up but do stay tuned I will get these to you!  I think every kid went home on a sugar high and holding a small glass bowl with a goldfish as well as having a subtle hint of camel smell attached to their clothing.  We are so very excited for next year’s party.  Now the challenge is topping this year!

As I mentioned our summer truly began in July so that meant it was time for us to hit the beach we are fortunate to have passes to our local beach so it has become a once if not twice a week hot spot!  Usually Grandma and Papa join us one of these days!  We have also spent many days with our cousins doing fun things including swimming, sleepover, farms, rodeo’s and bike rides!  We have had a lot of fun!  Joe has been working like mad so all projects that require him at our house are completely on hold.  Yes I agree BOO, BOO, BOO!  But as I know but still like to pretend I don’t being a business owner can sometimes or should I say always have you putting your projects on the back burner.  We are grateful that Joe has been such a success but the up at 530 and home at 11pm has been rough.  We are almost through it.

Here’s a few pictures of what Joe has been doing…A salon, a lake house, and a hand forge which K was able to go help one evening!

We had planned to head to one of our favorite spots of Door County for his birthday a few weeks back but unfortunately had to post-pone.  But new grandma came down from Hayward to give us a night out which was fun and we are happy we were able to do but our time with her is always too short.  The kids had a blast as new grandma spoils them rotten!  S ran to the grocery store with her to grab me hairspray when she arrived.  They were gone for what seemed to be FOREVER!  Well, they came back without the hairspray.  My mother in law said we couldn’t find the kind you like we went to three places.  I said “oh my gosh, I’m so sorry I will use whatever I’m not picky”  she said “ok we will run back.”  Well they came home and S had worked her four-year old magic on grandma…As they were in the grocery store S told her “usually when we come to the grocery store with mommy we get a little something”.  My mother in law said “Oh you do?  What would you like?”  S said “I would really like some chocolate”  So what does S come home with two milky way bars!  Then she told grandma she needed a little something more as she hadn’t seen S in a long time!  WHAT!  So grandma also bought her new hair clips!  I mean seriously who is this girl!  After Joe and I left for dinner she took the kids to their favorite restaurant where they have a game room.  New Papa was recently very sick so he had to forego coming down but he made sure to send Grandma with a roll of quarters for each kid.  I know they are too good to these two!  Then Grandma even took them to the park to play for a bit before coming home.  Which unfortunately Grandma was doing underdogs and slipped and hurt her leg/foot.  Grandma had to leave pretty early the next morning to get back to Papa but the kids had an amazing visit which is what matters!

As I said Joe isn’t able to work on any of our home projects so I am here enjoying my landscaping duties!  I love mowing the lawn when I can’t go running this is my other mind off life activity.  Some say pulling weeds is a stress reliever for them which I completely get but I find pulling vegetables out of my garden and fruit off my trees way more rewarding.  Everything here has been crazy late in arriving except our snap peas or green beans.  Those two I have an abundance of.  My tomatoes are now to the point of letting me share with family as well as bell peppers.  My lettuce I didn’t give proper attention to on its first growth but second round has been wonderful and we are now producing our third batch.  Our pear tree has produced a good amount this year but our darn puppy runs past the tree enough to knock them off and enjoy them himself!  We also discovered that we planted two plum trees as they began producing this year.

20150809_20315420150730_174612

I know I mentioned my transplanting of many flowers as we were due to start renovating so I had to do a quick fix around the back of our house before our 4th party.  I love the way it ended up looking with just a few bags of medium height wildflowers, twelve clearance pansies at Wal-Mart, and sunflower and marigold seeds we got from a friend!  Patients is key with these bags of seed…

20150730_085550

We just were able to complete the walkway off the bridge in the backyard as well.  So I guess Joe has been able to help me a bit!  I transplanted all my hostas (which get a daily trample by the dogs) and we grabbed some geraniums and lilies to do along the walkway!

wpid-20150819_115306.jpgwpid-20150819_115331.jpg

I don’t think I ever shared the completed play set project either.  So here are a few pics of this space.

wpid-20150819_115002.jpg wpid-20150819_115027.jpg wpid-20150819_115043.jpg wpid-20150819_115132.jpg wpid-20150819_115146.jpg wpid-20150819_115153.jpg

My current projects include chalk paint and my sewing machine!  My mom has done a lot of furniture with this and I have bought furniture over the past year for VERY cheap but haven’t gotten beyond sanding.  Joe is asking if my furniture purchases will ever move out of his shop and to a completed project home!  So I did my first end table.  I purchased the table at a garage sale a few months ago and just got to taking the time to complete it!  I do like the final product and it has gotten me excited to do more.  Maybe get the two chairs in the shop done!  I did however purchase a kids papasan chair today that I started while at mom and dad’s this afternoon.  Picture of this completed soon!  We have friends expecting their first bundle of joy in October they do not know the sex of their baby but they own a local boat rental company so I decided to make a few items for them in a nautical theme!  Here is the reversible bib, burp cloth, and changing pad.  I also made bibs and burp cloths in three other fabrics!

Well I know so much to share I promise to check in as soon as I get these projects complete.  We have planned to head to the zoo and I’m sure a few other things before summer ends.  I look forward to sharing with you!  Until then be well!

SPRING BREAK!

Hello Everyone! Not sure if this is your kids, neighbors kids, nieces or nephews spring break week but it is for us! So far its been a beautiful week whether wise! It’s been in the 50’s/60’s all week. The only negative was earlier in the week MUD! Of course today we woke up to having been dumped on again by rain early this morning. But that’s ok we are going to get out and do something fun!
So far this week we have done ALOT of yard work. That little dozer K got for his birthday has come in pretty handy for having him haul the remnants of my cleaned up gardens! He loves to help or rather he loves to do work! S does as well helping me pull “weeds” which as we know aren’t out now but as long as she isn’t pulling my flowers out she can pull her heart away!

Joe has begun his changes to the yard this week as well.  We removed the previous owners swing set two years ago and we managed without last summer but this year with the kids getting a bit older it would be nice to have something here to keep us busy!   So we have ordered a new swing set.  With this being said we decided to remove our two apple tree’s along the fence line.  Normally I would be super bummed but these two were not producing apples that I could use to bake and the for a snack the production was far and few between.  I think the location of these two was just not good.  So we took both of these down and we put in some shrubs.  Our neighbors came over and said “Wow, how long will we get to have you guys as neighbors?”  As people think we have our own little compound over here.  As Joe says he just doesn’t like neighbors in his business.  If he wants you over he will invite you! LOL!  Plus, I agree when the pool goes in I don’t want neighbors able to see into my yard.  So call it what you want at the end of the day we like privacy.  The kids enjoyed helping dad out too!

wpid-20150401_182658.jpgwpid-20150401_173746.jpgwpid-20150401_182459.jpgwpid-20150401_182430.jpgwpid-20150401_182339.jpg

We also cut down a dead tree on the opposite side of the yard…well Joe did I enjoyed watching from inside!  After we had a fire with the kids.  They thought we were camping out!  We let them have dinner out sitting on a log while they watched the fire and then they were off on adventures around Joe’s shop as there are so many places to climb and look for bugs, etc.

wpid-20150331_182251.jpg

We went to lunch one afternoon with their great-uncle and my cousin (who is two) to Culver’s then after went over to the Tractor Supply shop as it’s baby chick, duck season!  The best free entertainment and they are so sweet to the kids there telling them about the babies!  I almost got myself sucked in to taking a few home!  I would love to have a few for egg purposes but we have a friend who has five hundred and he has been very generous in sharing with us; so I think I should maybe leave this to him!

Our last task for the week was getting the pond back in order.  This is really a process but it went rather smoothly.  Joe’s friend stopped over and helped which was great as then I could simply watch!!  Removing the fish was fun as our original Koi spawned last season which we thought was surprising as we had just got them last July.  I knew for sure we had a total of ten including babies.  So we started to empty the water and prepare the kiddie pool for them to live in while we got the pond cleaned for them. They will stay in the kiddie pool for roughly four days during this process.  As we transported them S counted and named each new one Joe took out!  We were at eight and the water was getting light when we then found two more.  Joe continued to skim and Joe found three more…THEN two more!  I had no idea we had this many and clearly Joe didn’t either!  Our Koi must have had many long weekends last year during season!  I’m so happy they all made it through the winter.  If you read my post from last year when Joe built the pond it was a self-taught project.  So all we have done with our pond has been learned from talking to the Koi pond we got our Koi from, online research, as well as talking to our local landscape yards!  The amount of algae and leaves in the pond was incredible!  Lesson learned we will purchase a net for this upcoming fall.  For now we have it cleaned and the falls are back up and running great!  The Koi will return to their sanctuary on Monday!

Last, I have realized I have failed to mention our newest addition to our home!  We have brought home a new puppy!  His name is DUKE!  He is a blue German Shepherd he is now seventeen weeks old and so far been a great addition to our home.  Nala our just two-year old shepherd cares for him like her child and argues with him like an annoying little brother so it’s working out great!  wpid-img953671.jpgwpid-img_20150326_160803.jpg

Today looks like it is going to be another beautiful day!  I wish you all a wonderful Easter and look forward to connecting soon!

Lisenby Week In Review

Hello Everyone!

Well we made it!  The 4th of July party was a great success!  We completed all our home projects in time and I was a complete wreck day of!  I only left grocery shopping to the day of which in years past is done days before but then we are crazy trying to get the house and yard ready even with three to five extra sets of hands I get myself all stressed.  This year I wasn’t going to let that happen!  Here are some pictures of the day!  Kids enjoyed pony rides, jumpy house, face painting, a donut eating contest, s’mores, and fireworks!  While all guests indulged in rotisserie chicken, flank steak and lamb gyros!  As well as a dessert spread that included a cotton candy machine, rock candy, cake ball push pops with red and blue white chocolate, red velvet cupcakes with red, white and blue cream cheese frosting, and of course fireball jello-o shots for the adults!  We can’t wait for next years party but until then I’m working on details of Joe’s thirty-fifth birthday in August which will be a beer tasting!

imagewpid-20140705_200224.jpgwpid-20140705_154011.jpgwpid-20140705_153929.jpgimageimagewpid-20140705_155426.jpg

I did want to include the excitement leading up to the party as we had the two thousand pound bridge that had to be set over the waterfall before the party.  Cousin Slade helped during the moving of the bridge as I was in with my mom and sister-in-law baking!he kids enjoyed a ride in a crane before the driver left!  I’m pretty sure S and K think these types of machines are completely normal to have at your home regularly!

wpid-20140703_110608.jpgwpid-20140703_112443.jpgwpid-20140703_110541-1.jpgwpid-20140703_112713.jpgwpid-20140703_113059.jpg

I mentioned we were up visiting my in-laws a few days before the fourth.  On our last day we were able to visit a wildlife park and the big fish both I remember visiting as a kid and having so much fun.  S and K enjoyed it so much. S being my girl of nature was in love with having the opportunity to talk and hang out with adult and baby deers.  K is all boy so the fish were right up his alley.  They even got to throw the line in a few times with grandma!  What memories both these locations provided!

wpid-20140702_103020.jpgwpid-20140702_103102.jpgwpid-20140702_113334.jpgwpid-20140701_115824.jpgwpid-20140701_115629.jpgwpid-facebook_-1484261765.jpgwpid-20140701_113453.jpgwpid-20140701_113419.jpg

Well I’m exhausted just sharing the past weeks activity with you!  We sure will miss our guest/s Connie, Mike and Slade:( Thanksgiving visit will hopefully be here before we know it!  Connie thanks for everything this past month and creating some memories with us!

I’m looking forward to getting back to some rehab projects that were pushed aside over the past few weeks as well as some fun crafts with the kids!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Summer Has Taken Over!

HELLO! Well summer has officially arrived in the Lisenby home or at least I am back to myself 100 percent and its been non stop! As we prep for our annual 4th of July party as well as have some fun with the kiddos the days have simply gotten away from me!
We arrived this evening at my in laws summer home. Joe stayed back as summer is his busy time and there are still a few things to do before Saturday! So we drove six hours with my sister and brother-in-law to have a long over due visit!  As we all know these things are VERY necessary just as I’ve mentioned in the past about going out with friends for adult time.  Just getting out of dodge for a couple of days is always a good thing.  Wish Joe could join but as a business owner I appreciate and respect why he couldn’t come.

Things around the house are coming together nicely despite a ton of rain! BOO! As the Koi pond and fountain were completed last time I checked in last week we were finally able to lay sod! Joe and I laid 2400 square feet and he and two others laid the remaining 1200 square feet! Honestly I had no interest in doing this at 8p.m. but I do love working together to create a place to enjoy with our family and friends.  So I enjoyed helping!

wpid-20140623_210122.jpgwpid-20140623_172644.jpgwpid-20140623_172619.jpgwpid-20140623_234304.jpgwpid-20140624_093125.jpg

Keeping things moving Joe put in our fire pit this past week as well! As he took on doing a design he had not done before I was excited to see the outcome! Being the wife of someone who has so many ideas you never really know what he will want to do next! I think he nailed this. He was inspired by the wood boats we see on the lake. The beauty of them is something a boaters or non boaters (as we are) can appreciate! Also known as Woodies…here is a few pics of start to finish!
wpid-20140622_185451.jpgwpid-20140622_185336.jpgwpid-20140629_203345.jpgwpid-20140629_203657.jpg

The kids have also not slowed down; I actually feel like we’ve been on a carnival ride that just as you think is slowing down to stop the operator accidentally hits go and back at it you are! We are loving the ride so far! Busy means happy babies as well as exhausted! Which in my book is a double thumbs up! We went to a bi-plane fly in breakfast that K loved! We started rookie sports which both really love! We went to an amazing free zoo and we also have simply enjoyed turtle, Koi, Frog and Goldfish watching in the back yard!

The kids have still been enjoying every minute of Aunt Connie time that they have had…playing salon and coloring have been just a few of the highlights! We also took them out on their bikes for the first time! I was impressed they made it two miles. I’m pretty sure S’s legs were jello but they had fun riding where big kids do! We also squeezed in pictures as Connie is an amazing photographer based in Georgia. So when she visits I love having her get summer pics of S and K!

I’m sure I will have plenty to share after these next few days! Until then enjoy the 4th of July holiday! Keep it safe and take many pictures creating memories of the fun you had!

Ponds, Waterfalls, and Koi Fish Oh My!

I am so happy to report that our waterfall and Koi pond are just about complete!  We just have to start running the pump to get things moving to clear the water and get the waterfall circulating!  We have family coming for Fathers Day so we will have it fully up and running for our guests to enjoy!  Monday we will begin the process to put sod in!

Here are pictures from the past two days completing the project!

Lisenby Week in Review

Ok so this week has been pretty great with my management team! S and K that is!! The weather has been all over the board which has stunk but we are managing! K is still in love with shouting out “I don’t care, I love it, I love it!” and S has a standard response of “Oh my Gosh Mom!” to almost everything so status quo there. Our yard is planned to start taking on a new look this upcoming week so the kids will be terribly upset to see the mound of dirt gone but I’m sure a water feature going in will make for them to think we have put this in for their enjoyment! I look forward to sharing pictures for now we have just put in the final plantings in the retaining wall and last of stone path.

20140516-071529.jpg

We met up with a girlfriend this week at a great little place I definitely recommend checking out if you have kids ages 0-4. It is called Yu Kids Island, LLC! Yu Kids Island, LLC. They totally have this toddler entertainment thing down! All bright-colored, soft activities including merry-go-round, bouncy slide, a space that’s filled with balloons flying all over the place and a slide that is made of a plexi glass type product with water under it! S and K could stay all day and the set up I will say allows for mom/dad/grandparents/caregivers to take a break and sit at a half counter and watch the kids. The girls working are great helping the little ones get on a little taller stuff and constantly cleaning the area.

wpid-20140514_102623.jpg

On to a fun product we tried this week!  The Got Milk Straws! Yes they have been around for years but we are just getting to try out!  S and K spotted these while grocery shopping and of course my initial thought was “I’m not spending money on something we buy squeeze bottles of for much less” but then I thought “ok they are being good and I would rather spend money on something to go in their milk as to them asking and likely me arguing over not buying a dollar toy”. So in the cart they went…some may say I just bribed them and you are 100% correct but is it really bribery if it’s food?!  We recently introduced chocolate milk to them so when S saw strawberry she couldn’t wait to try!  We’ll after all the excitement I will say K loves these as he thinks it’s candy so it’s a no brainer for him.  S on the other hand prefers fruits and veggies so she hasn’t asked for it again.  I tried and will say yes it does the trick but to get the full chocolate effect I had to break up the little chocolate pieces.  So for now I think we will stick with the squeeze bottles or at least until we are in another grocery store that does genius product placement of the product!

wpid-20140517_073930.jpg

A few other things for the week! We got a jump start on dad’s Father’s Day gifts.  The first one we did was I interviewed S with a serious of questions about Joe.  I will type it up on cute paper and frame it for his day.  I will start this with K next year!  We also did a cute “We Love You” gift which I wish I could share the step by step process with you but my computer crashed and away went those pictures so once complete I will share!

Last I created each of the kids their own email address!  I read about doing this somewhere and each month sending them an email and when they turn eighteen give them the password!  I love this idea I think I will share the address with grandmas and papas too!

OK have a great Sunday everyone! I’m headed to take part in the Cancer Assault Challenge that includes fifteen obstacles of mud, water, etc.  wish me luck and I will share the experience tomorrow!

(I was not paid or hosted to provide feedback on any of the above products.  This is only my opinion and my experience)

Lisenby Landscaping or it seems…

A beautiful Mother’s Day it was today! I enjoyed breakfast on the porch with S followed by brunch with my family minus my beautiful older sister. She is currently in Thailand playing with elephants with her family and yes I but more so S is very jealous! What an incredible experience! After brunch it was to the flea market and home for naps at least this was how the day went for the kids and I! Joe on the other hand was two cups of coffee in and eagerly waiting for the appropriate time to start his skid loader and bobcat in the backyard! As I mentioned before we are in the process of starting a fairly large addition but prior to we have things such as retaining walls and general landscape that needs tending too. So play space in the yard has went from about a football field to the goalie box! Ok not really but that’s how it feels as work is in progress S and K need to have a safe space and the dirt hill isn’t always it! So Joe put in our new retaining wall before brunch and when we got home planted three more trees finishing just as the down pour started.

There are a few ways I feel about the start of work on our home including and most important; how the heck will I manage S and K during all this as Joe does much of the work himself or assists in it so yes he will be home physically but the mental is all on this girl when it comes to S and K!
As I share the journey of my two little managers I look forward to also including you in on my journey of the addition on our home!
I hope all those moms, soon to be moms or any male or female that has taken on this role had a truly great day and we will chat again very soon!
